  • I was unable to duplicate the issue. The .zip archive extracted without error for me using 7-Zip.

That error message can sometimes be indicative of a memory module problem, or even hard disk issues on occasion (as well as a host of other local machine related issues). Try downloading from a different machine and see if you can repeat the error.

The download is working fine for me.

Try a fresh download and reinstall.

    I downloaded twice.

I uploaded 3.4.2 to my CentOS server with WHM/CPanel and if I extract using the File Manager, it is reporting corrupted CRC check error.

I tried unzipping on my PC/Windows 7 with jZIP and jZIP is reporting “jZip does not support the file format of the file you are trying to open. The archive file could not be opened” I have an older version 3.4.1 and that file could be opened by jZIP.

I uploaded the wordpress-3.4.2.tar.gz file as an alternative. It initially extract but then and I got this error message:

gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data–crc error

gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data–length error
    wordpress/wp-admin/images/toggle-arrow-rtl.gif
    wordpress/wp-admin/images/wpspin_light.gif
    wordpress/wp-admin/images/icons32-2x.png
    /bin/gtar: Unexpected EOF in archive
    /bin/gtar: Unexpected EOF in archive
/bin/gtar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

I tried unzipping on my PC/Windows 7 with jZIP

You don’t need an extractor when using Windows. You can just open the .zip archive like a folder and then copy the wordpress folder inside it.

You can just open the .zip archive like a folder and then copy the wordpress folder inside it.

    I get this error:
    “Windows cannot open the folder.
The Compressed (zipped) Folder ‘…\wordpress-3.4.2.zip’ is invalid.

Then there’s an issue with your local network or ISP. The download is working fine for everyone else. Try a different computer – preferably on a different network.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When I used Firefox, I was having this problem.

If I use Google Chrome, the download worked fine.

I just downloaded both the .zip and the .tar.gz archives using Firefox 16, and both extracted as expected using the Windows native compression tools and 7-zip (for the .zip package), and 7-Zip for the .tar.gz package. No errors encountered.

Ditto. Plus no other reports of corrupt downloads on these forums. So this has to be a local network or browser issue.
