Downloads page not downloads manager

As WordPress has become more of a CMS the one thing it is missing is an easy downloads page. I have just looked at downloads manager plugin, its too geeky for me, my brain is full of fluff and I need things spelt out in an easier fashion.

Why isn’t there a simple downloads plgin that creates a dwonloads page or allows a page to be simply converted much like contact plugin makes a contact page?

Or perhaps i am missing something
