I handle several client Web Story accounts and currently, 1 is having an issue with Draft mode.

When I’m ready to schedule or publish a draft the publish/schedule button only reads “Update” as shown in the screenshot. Even if the date is a month out, I can’t get it into a real draft form.

Clicking the Switch to Draft button does nothing.

I can’t schedule or publish anything new.

    Done the following.
    Deactivated and reactivated the plugin.
    Checked for updates (none needed).
Tried different templates to make sure it’s not in my particular format.
    Cleared the cache.
The current version of WP is being used.

I have full administrative use of this account. I would really appreciate some help!

  • Hi @meangreenchef thanks for getting in touch. From your screenshot I can see that your story visibility is marked as private. If you mark that to public and then set your future date for publish then the “update” should change to “schedule“.

If you have these set to private then they are not publishable which is why you were only getting the update option as they’re only visible to site admins and editors.

Hope this helps to explain this for you and is what you were looking for. Please let me know if you have any further questions I can help with.

Good Morning @adamdunnage, thank you for the quick reply. So you are right about the Private setting and I didn’t realize this over the weekend. However, when I change it to Public and hit “Publish/Schedule” it changes it back to private and will not schedule or publish.

It does this with all drafts.

@meangreenchef Hi there, can you check if you get the same error in an incognito browsing window?

Could you also provide your Site Health information? You can share privately if you prefer.

Good Morning @luckynasan it does happen in incognito mode too. I have tried both Chrome and Edge.

I just submitted the requested information, thank you for your help.

@meangreenchef Thank you for submitting the information. We’ll be going through it to check for any obvious plugin conflicts and try to reproduce the issue on our end.

In the meantime, could you also perform a test on your side? We want to check if the issue occurs when Web Stories is the only plugin enabled. Could you use the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin and enable its troubleshooting mode. This mode disables active plugins and switches to a default theme safely because it only affects the experience of the logged-in user.

    – Please enable the Web Stories plugin and let me know if the issue is present.
    – Enabling plugins and your theme one by one in this mode may help pinpoint if something else is involved.
    – Note you can disable troubleshooting mode from the plugins page.

@meangreenchef Just checking in to see if you are still having issues with this?

As we haven’t received a response we are going to mark your topic as resolved. Please feel free to open a new support topic if you continue to experience any issues. Thank you!
