• I can’t ever recall a problem with spam registrations and I have upgraded all of my plugins and use Register Plus with captcha. But two of my blogs are getting several spam registrations a day for about a week now. The only thing that has changed (other than upgrading to the new version of WP is that I also added my RSS into Feedburner. But there is no way I can be getting registrations from a feed … right?

Thanks for any pointers, tips or tricks.

  • I’m seeing the same increase in spambot registrations as well and have the same spam protection measures in place. Anyone know what’s going on? Is there a security hole in WordPress that needs patching?

There are no known security holes on WP 3.0.4 at this time.

Many thanks. Any ideas then as to the sharp increase or if anyone is looking into uncovering a security issue?

It’s not a security issue. Consider adding a plugin to enhance registration protection or limit registration.

What I’ve gathered is that the Register Plus pluggin is no longer working. So I have uninstalled that from my blogs.

    Then I installed:

    SI CAPTCHA Anti-Spam
    and
    Theme My Login

The SI Captcha gives me the protection I had with register plus and the Theme My Login pluggin nicely embeds my login in prompt within one of my blog theme pages. Just what I liked about Register Plus.

I installed these shortly after I posted and I no longer have the problem.

Good luck finding a solution that works for you.

Always a good suggestion but I’m already using a few of the most common solutions including reCAPTCHA and register plus. And adding more plugins is always a solution I like to avoid as more plugins may equal more functionality, but too many begin to degrade site performance and increase the potential for conflicts.

Thanks for the insight CoolKarma, I’ll have to give those options a try.
