I know, there are numerous people who have reported problems with receiving pingbacks. This is more of a confirmation request.

Are any of you DreamHost customers out there suddenly having problems receiving pingbacks? All of my blogs have suddenly stopped receiving pingbacks. It may be due to DH disabling allow_url_fopen(), but I thought that they disabled that a week ago.

If you need to test your ability to receive pingbacks, Podz has setup a blog just for that purpose: https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/TestTrack/

If you are a DreamHost customer, please respond with whether or not you are able to receive pingbacks. If you know that it’s due to DreamHost disabling allow_url_fopen(), and you have a work-around, please post that as well.

  • ifelse, don’t I know it. You should see the mess of code I made trying to “fix” it. A true programmer/coder wouldn’t know whether to laugh or cry if they saw it ??

Jennmiller, your best option would be to ask the plugin developer if he/she knows a way around it, and send him/her this article as well: https://blog.unitedheroes.net/archives/p/1630/

Thanks, macmanx, but I finally “bit the bullet” and transferred. That will free up some space to keep DH working great for the others ??

For those on Dreamhost or other hosts that have disabled allow_url_fopen and want to use the WP Plugin Manager, I have made it work with CURL and have emailed the plugin author about releasing it.

Thus far, it’s been almost a week and half and I haven’t heard back from the author yet, so not sure what to do with my mods. ??

    Regards

Cypher, the WP Plugin Manager is released under the GPL, so you could release your own version under the same license.

True enough. Then I will do so for those suffering without this plugin. ??

trackback works for me at the test URL ( https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/TestTrack ), but not to other blogs for example run on MT. I am hosted at dreamhost .. can someone tell me if my problem is due to the same function of fopen as described here? … Thank you

Problem solved! …I moved to BlueHost…

Cypher ~ have you had a chance to release your version of WP Plugin Manager? If so where can the file(s) be found?

Since my DH account was still open, I stopped in and put up a test v1.5.1 blog. The changes made to the trackback and pingback system are perfect and trackbacks and pingbacks work perfectly under DreamHost as long as you’re using WordPress v1.5.1.
