Hi, my website experienced a serious drop in traffic, which coincides timely with a drop in AMP pages (plugin was turned on when the drop started I am 90% sure) and an increase in pages blocked by robots.txt

Additional problem is that, non-amp pages that are allowed in robots.txt, de facto seem to be blocked by robots.txt (see attached or https://prnt.sc/DzNC2ZenFLu4)

    How to recover AMP pages?
Is it connected to robots.txt problem?

    Thanks

    Hello @hamsini

Thank you for contacting us, As we checked your website we found out that you have no issues with AMP pages also robots.txt is not blocking your AMP pages.

You are using Reader Mode with a Legacy theme, it has limited support for AMP page templates it only works on a singular page. so there will be no AMP version available for your homepage, or archive pages such as categories, tags etc.

In case you want to allow other pages we will recommend switching to other Reader themes such as Astra or Neve, you can learn more about Reader Mode themes in our documentation or in the video below

Also, I would like to mention that The AMP plugin does not modify robots.txt files We will recommend checking with your SEO plugin.

    We hope this helps!

    Hi, thanks for your answer.

    1. However, I still don’t understand why after disabling your plugin – my pages became inaccessible to Google in some way? (I thought it was robots.txt)
I prefer not having amp versions at all but normal pages, accessible to Google.
    2. I can’t find the reader mode themes you’ve mentioned but only 2013, 2016, 2019…

    Hello @hamsini

    1. AMP plugin do not block pages from being read by Google bots as that defeats the purpose of having AMP, this might be your hosting setup or your SEO plugin we will recommend checking your site with an SEO expert.

    2. You need to install Astra, and Neve themes to use the Reader mode, this has been explained in the video and documentation link I provided in my previous reply.

Hi, I haven’t found such explanation in the video.
So I need to change the WordPress theme of my website (to Astra/Neve) and then enable the theme AMP plugin’s themes?
    Thanks

    Hello @hamsini

Sorry for the confusion, Your Pimarary theme remains the same, which displays normal pages

You need to install the Astra or Neve theme, then you will be able to find those themes in the Reader Mode themes where you found 2013, 2016, 2019 themes.

    Choose Astra from the list

Your website will be served over your primary theme, only your AMP pages will be served via Neve/Astra theme.

I hope this has helped you understand Reader Mode theme concepets.

    Hi thanks for the clarification.

However, there is an underlying problem here.
I see that Google is crawling /amp/ URLs. (see https://prnt.sc/TwLg1thkBMwq )
Why are those URLs generated? I selected AMP URLs with “?” parameter to be generated, not /amp/
