Dropdown Menus are not working after installing WP 5.5.

Please try installing https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/enable-jquery-migrate-helper/ to see if that fixes the issue.

Something is using bad jQuery that was fixed up in the migration plugin. That used to be in core, but supporting it holds back necessary development. So….

But i have one question: this is problem in WP and will be repaired or is problem in themes (i use theme Bose https://www.ads-software.com/themes/bose/ ) and i need find a new theme?

Hi Steve, what you mean to say is (if I understand correctly, my English is not always adequate) that it takes less time to fix bad code through a plugin, than to fix that code itself. That’s not the most attractive solution I think, but anyway: thanks again for your help and have a good weekend!

WordPress has made a change and your theme will need to be fixed to keep up with it. It’s part of a process to get to using the current version of jQuery. See https://make.www.ads-software.com/core/2020/06/29/updating-jquery-version-shipped-with-wordpress/

If I understand correctly, the jquery plugin is no longer automatically installed and enabled. Installing and enabling it fixes the issue but it seems like a work around not a real fix. Themes across the board are affected by this which means that the 5.5 upgrade potentially broke all themes. That doesn’t seem right.

No, jQuery is installed. A shim that allowed very old jQuery t run was removed from core and moved into a plugin. Developers that pay attention were not surprised by this; betas are public and announced via a variety of media.

Again I have to ask for the help of the users of this forum, I hope someone knows a solution.
In October 2020 I wrote: “After upgrading to WP 5.5 the dropdown menus in the main header of our website are not working anymore. It concerns Bestemmingen (Destinations), Type Reizen (Type of tours) and Over Blini (about us). When clicking on the arrows right of these buttons, nothing happens.”
With your help, the problem was solved by installing https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/enable-jquery-migrate-helper/.

But unfortunately this doesn’t work anymore…
When upgrading to WordPress 5.7, the dropdown-menus dissapeared again.
Fortunately, this time I used our test-environment (https://test.blinireizen.nl/), so there is no problem with the official website. But at some point I’ll have to upgrade to 5.7 here too.

Anyone have an idea?
