• Hi,

Can you confirm that this plugin will be updated to support Universal Prompt instead of the traditional Duo Prompt before the end of life date of March 30, 2024?

    Thanks,

    Rob

  • Same question !!!

Our university uses Duo for authentication. If this plugin is truly going to be EOL next year, what options do we have? Can we use another authenticator to connect to our university’s 2FA? Is this what the universal support does?

Update will be available in the first half of 2023 as you can see here

The first half of 2023 has come and gone. Still waiting for update.

The deadline is approaching soon, should we start looking into your competitors offerings for an alternate solution.

For what it’s worth, I have opened a support ticket with Duo support asking for an explanation and a timeline for when they will make the effort to update this plugin. So pathetic that they impose a deadline of March 30, 2024 for software developers and customers who implement their MFA solution, yet they can’t be bothered to maintain this plugin nor provide any feedback on this thread!

Here’s what the Duo tech said to me on the ticket I opened:

I have consulted our product team. They said there is an updated WordPress plugin that is code-complete and waiting for WordPress's approval and listing. We expect to hear back from WordPress in the next 30 days or so. As soon as WordPress approves it, we will release it and contact customers.

I suggested to the tech that he or someone at Duo posts here to keep everyone in the loop. If there’s no followup, I won’t be surprised…

Thank you @alozzy for submitting the ticket through their website. That is somewhat of a relief that we are now waiting on the powers that be at WP to approve it. Fingers crossed it is soon.

As predicted, Duo support haven’t bothered to post an update here. Ever since Cisco acquired them, the support has gone down hill…

Duo has done absolutely nothing to update this plugin for WordPress. The EOL for support from Duo for non-universal prompt apps is fast approaching, clearly they could not care less.

Here’s the latest promise from Duo support

“… Our product team and WordPress are actively working on reviewing the new version of the Duo plugin for WordPress. We expect the new plugin will be available before the?March 30, 2024 end-of-life of the Duo Traditional prompt. However, if there would be any further delay?in launching the new plugin, Duo will definitely not disable customers’ ability to authenticate…”

Thanks @alozzy for passing this along. This is encouraging news.

The latest from Duo tech support…

    “…

Our Product team will check the status with WordPress, then they would like to make a public statement (perhaps in the thread you mentioned, or in official comms) about what customers can expect going forward.

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention!”

Thanks for the update and keeping this on their radar @alozzy.

    Hello everyone,

My name is Landy and I’m a Product Manager for Authentication at Duo. This post was shared with me recently. We aren’t always able to provide updates on every forum, but I do apologize for any confusion or lack of communication here.

The team has been hard at work on the updated WordPress plugin since early 2023. There have been some starts and stops along the way, but the majority of the work is done for the updated plugin. As you might expect, Duo has specific requirements we need to meet to adhere to our release and security standards, as does WordPress to be able to approve and host these plugins. We are continuing to make forward progress towards the release of the updated plugin, but aren’t able to share the exact timeframe quite yet.

For this reason, we will be extending support for using the Traditional Prompt with the existing plugin to 9/30/2024. More general updated communications surrounding what is happening on March 30 will be sent next week to any customers who we detect are still using the Traditional Prompt. I hope this provides some relief and addresses immediate concerns of potential service interruption. We will communicate a later date after the plugin’s availability when the Traditional Prompt will stop working for this application, but that will not occur before 9/30/2024.

Thank you for your continued patience and we hope to have this delivered to customers as quickly as possible!
