Duplicate Category Lists in Post Edit Mode WP 5.0

  • After upgrading to WP 5.0, I now have two identical category lists appearing in the right pane of any post I’m editing. Under the document tab, I select a category and then have to scroll down to the bottom of the document tab (not the category window) and select the same category again or the post will not save correctly.

    How do I get rid of it?

  • It might help if you can share a screenshot. Are you using the new Gutenburg editor or the class editor?

    Yes, I’m using the Gutenburg editor. I’m new to WP but can’t see where I can add an attachment here.

    There’s the Classic Editor plugin to go back the “old” editor. That might help.

    It’s happening to mee too!

    The problem is what you fill in first categories block, will be rewritten by what its filled in second categories block. that’s terrible.

    I wasnt understanding how all caterogies Ive filles was substituted by “no-category” option. Nothing was making sense. Until I saw this second block of categories there in editor of 5.0.

    And the problem is: the first one is easy to find the category you want, typing the inicials, the second one, does not permit it, so, its hard to check boxes when you have more than hundreds os options (section, source, theme, subject, and others classifications).

    Ive tried to remove plugins to blame them (like elementor) and nothing changed until I see this thread of discution.

    My problem was identified.

    The plugin collapsing-category-list created another admin category box/menu to check/select categories in new or edit posts.

    So, when I deleted this plugin, the default menu/box category in post.php started to work fine again.
