Duplicate directories in URL

I’m having problems with my links. For example, when I’m on the about page, and I click on contact, It will add “about” as a directory before my link, though the link is structured correctly in the URL. https://mysite.com/wordpress/about/contact is what it generates when what I really need is https://mysite.com/wordpress/contact. I am using a static front page. I specified a page for posts (which is not in use). Updating my permalink structures doesn’t do jack. WordPress is in its own directory. When I link to the pages from the navbar, if I use the right structure to reach the page, it duplicates the “wordperss” directory in the link. If I use a link structures which would assume that wordpress is installed in the root, it doesn’t give the duplicated directory, but it DOES add the current page as some kind of pseudo directory before appending the page I’m trying to get to. Any thoughts of why the URL’s are messed up?
