duplicate home pages

I need help in deleting a duplicate home page so that my website has one useful home page instead of one useful and one annoying home page.
Continuing a trend I’ve been unfortunate enough to experience in web design since 2,000, I ended up trying to finish a website that a paid web designer had started but was unable to finish. I got talked into using WordPress and was told it could be adapted to look like a normal website instead of a blogging forum. I was able to get most of the site functioning as I desired with the exception of the home page and ended up with a website that had posting as the front page. I recently got motivated enough to try and fix this problem and was able to find a plug in that would allow me to create a home page, but unfortunately this plug in won’t delete or overwrite the existing home page resulting in a pair of home pages. The theme twentyeleven theme I’m using doesn’t list a home page either, is there any way to get this to work? Or is it time to give up on WordPress and find something that works better?
