I have the WC CSV Product Import Suite and am having serious issues. Here is my last thread with them to get you up to speed in hopes that your plugin will deliver the goods.

    WOOTHEMES,

In the CSV Import Suite, i’m having serious issues with this plugin duplicating every image for every variation.

    Let me explain..

Each product has an associated image in the parents product CSV.
Each variable has an associated image in the children variables CSV.
When i upload a new product with multiple variations(10 size variations), it causes the library to duplicate the primary image for each variable. = 11 duplicate images for 1 product
Thats 11 images for 1 product which should only have 1 image in the library.

I’ve tried everything in your docs as instructed and there seems to be no solution to this anywhere.

I have an idea but not sure if this will solve the issue with duplicate images.
    _____________
    Product 1 has a default image image1.jpg

Product 1 has 10 sizes or variables which link to the same image: image1.jpg

During the upload, WC or WP Media Library is duplicating the “image1.jpg” for every variable in product 1 resulting in 10 duplicates= 11 images for product 1 (not to mention colors, fabrics, and other variation images).
    ______________

Is it possible to structure the CSV whereas for each variable(size) that doesn’t require an image change (for colors), the Product Variables are left blank for the images? This way the variables that are pointing to the default image do not duplicate, and don’t take up space in the media library.

If indeed this would work, we still are faced with the dilemma of the “Product Parent” default image plus the “Variable Kids” having the same Image column which will result in duplicate images; regardless of the above mentioned. In other words, both CSV’s have an image column with the same image mentioned twice which causes the duplication regardless of the Variable CSV Blanks for sizes.

    OR,

Is it possible to configure the CSV, whereas, the Product Images and its Variables simply point to the respective image on the database vs. the media library? Without duplication of course!

I currently have 150 products uploaded, with 10 variables, on average, per each product. If CSV Product Import Suite is duplicating the product image for every variable(size) that does not require an image change(for colors), that equates to 1,500 images. Not to mention the additional variable images for colors and fabrics. Total 8,567 images for 150 products.

As mentioned in the previous thread, I still have over 5,000 products that have multiple variations that still need to be uploaded. With the status quo of this issue, the total number of duplicate images for my store will be around 287,00 images in my library. My website will not function at this scale.

Furthermore, once i executed the 150 test products which resulted in 8,567 images due to insane duplications, there is no tool or method that allows you to go back into the media library and delete the duplicates one by one. I’ve tried multiple WPML plugins but none of them provide a solution.

Even-though there may be a solution to delete duplicates in the media library, it still does not solve the issue of duplicating images using this plugin.

There has to be a better solution to this…

Sound familiar and does your plugin have the same issue?

    Hey jasonstatus,

Yes, on WP All Import we include an option that when uploading images, the import will first look through the Media Library for existing images, if the image exists then that one will be used instead of creating a new copy of it. This effectively prevents duplicates.

This matching is purely based on the filename of the image, which means that the only requirement would be that your images will need to have unique filenames. The import would not actually check the content or size of the image, only the filename.
