Duplicate Order Number (not ID)

Hi there,
we have an odd problem, two customers ordered at the exact time on Friday 13th and paid with amazon pay. Now they have the exact same order number (not order_id though). My question is, how can i change a specific order number of an order id? is there a code snippet for this kind of problem? Every hint in the right direction would be much appreciated.
