Duplicating a template that modifies the page editor

Hi,

The website I manage has templates that not only modifies the front-end but also the page editor. When I select that template, the page editor reloads and there are fields I can modify which are then reflected on the front-end.

I tried to duplicate the template and rename it. It appears properly in the list of templates in WordPress but when I select it, the back-end layout disappears whereas the front-end is fine and as intended.

Why am I losing the back-end page editor layout?
