Just one day with Events Manager and it is so robust, well-laid out and glitch-free that I’m pinching myself.

I will have a number of recurring events that are duplicates in all ways except where times vary depending on the day (e.g., Fri. 4-7pm, Sat. 11-3:30pm, Sun. 11:30-4pm) and then that schedule will be weekly, for several months.

I know multiple times (depending on the day) seems to require three separate recurring event setups. However, is there a way to auto-duplicate the event, and then just change its day and unique time on the duplicated event? You’d end up with two separate events that are exactly the same, but each with its own date/time.

If not in the free version, can that be done in the Pro version?

  • Hiya,

I’m afraid that there is no duplication functionality on recurring events, no.

You can duplicate single events, but not recurrences. So you’d need to create each recurring event and copy over your titles and descriptions etc.

    Thanks,
    Phil

Sorry to hear that, it would be a HUGE advantage to event publishing websites. And there’s no way to do a “save as” function in any kind of workaround way either, I assume. Neither in Pro nor free (just wanted to be sure you understood that “yes in Pro only” would be totally acceptable too). Clinging to the hope, is there anywhere there’s a wish list for features?

There’s a sort of a duplication workaround for events.

What you’d need to do is create a recurring event and then use the Detach feature to remove individual events from the recurring sequence so you can edit the dates and times.

After creating your recurring event, mouseover the individual events on Events > Events and you’ll see the Detach option.

Hmmm. If I detach the first instance of the occurrence that’s going to be on the different day with the different time, can that detached (and modified) version then be made into a recurring event? Because that would be an effective workaround I’d be quite happy with.

I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking – do you want to reattach it to the original recurring event, or set a new recurring event based on the detached event?

Well, picture one event that goes all year, Fri, Sat and Sun of each week, but with different times for each of those days, to be repeated week in, week out, throughout the year.
So I would make a recurring event for Friday, with its unique times. Now, since I can’t duplicate that event (similar to a “save as”) in order to have all the content the same except change the day to Sat. and change Sat’s unique event times, then I was wondering if a workaround could be to enter the first (Friday’s) data, and save. Then use Detach somehow to duplicate all other info so it doesn’t have to be created all over again from scratch, and revise that detached copy to Saturday and enter Sat’s times. But then be able to save that detached (and revised) version as a recurring event for Saturdays. And do that one more time to accommodate Sunday’s unique event times.
I have a fair number of those (performances, for instance, with 7pm on Fri., 8pm on Sat. and 2pm Matinee time on Sun., but where all other info is the same. So I’m looking for a way to avoid creating 3 identical recurring events from scratch, just to change the times of each day’s performances.

sorry at the moment you need to modify each individual event if you’ve wanted to change something since updating it through the recurring event will delete everything at the moment.

Hmmm. I’ve been editing current events and re-publishing/updating them with no loss of data.

I mean if you edit recurring events template at Events > Recurring Events

Yup, figured that out after I posted and my Edit button expired. ??

Sorry, I’m not sure what you mean when you say your “Edit button expired”. Can you explain? Thanks.

I’m totally new to WP and this is my first thread on its forums. I think I saw an Edit button right after posting a question I’d asked but when I went back later there was no way to edit what I’d asked–that I could find anyway. It may have a time lapse thing of some sort?

Yes, you can edit posts on this forum but only for a few (15?) minutes afterwards.
