I am building a Woo shop and all products in one category should have 2 saved tabs in place. When I duplicate product the custom tabs are no longer greyed out with the choice to override, but are black text and clearly editable.

I want to be able to make changes to these tabs in your plugin settings and have it propagate to all the products using them. I honestly don’t know that to expect with the symptom above.

I have been erasing the tabs on the duplicate product and manually entering the saved tabs again, I wish I didn’t have to do this.

    Hello again Liz,

Sorry about that! This is a bug and I will try to get in a fix today; I haven’t personally tested it but I’m pretty sure that the duplicated products will not be saved as global tabs. Manually overriding them is the correct thing to do. Again – I’ll get on this ASAP.

    Kevin.

    Hi Liz,

I just pushed an update to the plugin – v1.5.7 – that should handle duplicating products. If you duplicate a Woo product, any associated saved tabs on the old product will now be recognized as saved tabs on the new product.

Let me know if this is working for you.

    Cheers,
    Kevin.

    Hi Kevin,
Your update did the trick! I don’t expect that I can change a saved tab IN a product and have it propagate to all other products using tab. I know that I have to go into Tab setting in dashboard to change a saved tab throughout all products using it.

The issue was that when I duplicated a product, the duplication resulted in the custom tabs being black (as if I had customized them) by default, instead of greyed out (as they are when I add a saved tab).

    thanks!!!!

Yes – your understanding is absolutely correct and I apologize if I was unclear before. I’m glad it’s working now :-).

While you’re here, have you tested out migrating the product tabs?

    Kevin.

I just created another test site and backup/migrated to new site and the tabs came through as “global”, rather than defaulting to writable so SUCCESS!

Fantastic! Thanks for letting me know. Did you use a specific plugin? It may be helpful for users down the line.

I used UpdraftPlus Premium for site migration. iThemes BackupBuddy also does an excellent job.
