    Hi there,

I have installed GA4 code on my site and have enhanced measurement settings turned on to track external link clicks.

However Monsterinsights is also tracking these link clicks and so the external link click numbers are duplicated in GA4.

Will this be addressed by Monsterinsights with a setting in the plugin to track internal link clicks only?

I am reluctant to turn enhanced measurement off and would prefer to just have MI track internal link clicks. It isn’t viable to continue to use Monsterinsights due to the duplication in tracking.

    Thanks,

    Rachel

    Hi @rrodda75,

Thanks for reaching out. I’m sorry about the trouble here.

For MonsterInsights users, we recommend disabling or turning off Google’s built-in enhanced measurement tracking.

When first authenticating your GA4 property with MonsterInsights, we’ll automatically disable this option when creating a data stream for you.

But in the instances where this needs to manually be disabled, you can find this option within your GA4 property ? Admin ? Data Streams and by clicking into the existing data stream.

Google’s enhanced measurement option doesn’t need to be enabled for our users for outbound link tracking as well as downloads tracking, scroll tracking, and more, since MonsterInsights already provides these advanced custom tracking features and leaving the option on sometimes interferes with our tracking.

By default, we don’t track internal link click activity, but this can be enabled using our custom link attribution feature. To learn more, please see this guide: https://www.monsterinsights.com/docs/custom-link-attribution/

I hope this helps, but if you have further questions or have any other issues we can help with, our team would be happy to continue assisting if you could reach out to us directly at https://www.monsterinsights.com/lite-support/

    Thanks so much!

    Hi there,

Does Monsterinsights track all of the same events as the Enhanced Measurement on the free plugin or only with the paid version?

If enhanced measurement is switched off in GA4, do you still have access to the data from Monsterinsights to create custom reports etc in GA4?

    Hi @rrodda75,

Thanks for following up. I’m sorry about the delay here.

Yes, our recommendation to disable enhanced measurement tracking applies to both our free version and paid version. Disabling the enhanced measurement tracking will not affect your historical data.

Our free version comes with our starter traffic tools, but our paid version provides full access to our suite of custom event tracking (on top of our paid version adding other super handy reporting and tracking features). We’re unable to share details about paid version features here (www.ads-software.com policy), but you’re welcome to reach out at https://monsterinsights.com/contact/ and we’d be happy to share more about this.

    Thanks.
