    Hi,

I love this plugin – succesfully worked on one of my sites and saved me a good amount of time. thank-you

HOwever on a site that I need to move from one host to another I am experiencing a problem.

The package gets created and I can save it no problem.

    The problem is with the installer. I think it’s being created, but the download link brings up an error;

    *****
C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp\K2eAVMKX.php.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.

Try again later, or contact the server administrator.
    *****

I’ve tried searching for this but can’t really get to the bottom of it.

Is there another way of saving this file? Does it exist somewhere that I can grab it from in /wp-admin/ or something.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’m running WP 3.1.3 by the way.

    Thanks.

    Simon

I will be also be trying Duplicator with another host as I have 5 domains that need to be set up and see if it works there. With this host the theme worked but none of the posts , pages or views transferred over?

I could take a look at the installer logs if you want… You’ll need to submit a help ticket via support.lifeinthegrid.com

I have a feeling that duplicator didn’t duplicate the posts, pages and views?

How about I send you the package zip and the installer.php and you try this yourself.

If I am installing a duplicate wordpress site and the installer doesn’t work I don’t see how changing rights in the already duplicated files that had rights when they were duplicated? Are there files outside of this that have to be changed in order to allow the install?

    Confused?

    Iam;o)

Thats fine, just don’t use the forum to post your links submit a help ticket at the link above and I’ll have a look at them…

When you move files from one location to another those files can change ownership and rights based on the new PHP process that is running and the account that moved the files. File permissions and group ownership don’t stay attached to the files that are zipped up. When they are extracted they inherit the new permissions of the process that extracted them and the process that originally created them, where the creation process is marked by just moving/FTPing the files…

I will start up a ticket and get the info to you.

Can I move all the files manually without using a plugin such as Duplicator?

Definitely! Checkout the link below. It gives you a step by step:

A question about file permissions. If I move the database and then change the file permissions when extracted, will all the posts, pages and view, view templates work?

    Cory Lamle

    (@corylamleorg)

It has on thousands of installs, however every install is not the same because there are all kinds of contingencies to deal with, its not always a one size fits all. You have the following items to deal with:

    – Web Servers and the various versions
    – PHP and the various versions
    – Databases and the various versions
    – Different Themes with diffident settings and how other users store those settings among the various versions
    – Over 100,000 different plugins where many of them tweak files like your .htaccess etc.

The plugin is still in Beta and changing all these various conditions takes time at lots of feedback.

To answer your question directly ‘yes’ and ‘no’ it can depend on how things are ultimately configured on your system. I know it frustrating at this point, but the plugin currently requires a bit of IT knowledge to finalize if you run into issues. I’m working on making in a bit more user friendly…

You might check with you host and see if they can set the correct permissions for you…

    Hope that helps!
