Well, guess it was a permission issue, because I just gave full permission over the directory, run the script, went flawless and then changed permission back to normal apache permission, site working perfectly now. Thanks anyhow.

@haushinka I changed the wordpress install directory permission to 777 just for the time needed to run the script, once it finished i changed all permissions back to normal WordPress permissioning.

For anyone else who runs into this, the issue is due to a missing PHP modules, not permissions.

You just need to install – or ask your host to install – php-mbstring

I second @simonfishley and his response. I had this error, installing the php-mbstring package solved the problem. Thank you @simonfishley !

simonfishley and his response worked for me too. installing the php-mbstring package does the trick
