When I use Duplicator to make a back-up and recreate a WordPress installation from it, some files are lost.

They are not added as filters. (I have only one filter – full path to “wp-content/uploads” directory.)

Mostly, these are documentation-related files like LICENSE, README, INSTALL, AUTHORS, BUGS, NEWS, USAGE, TROUBLESHOOTING, TODO in various WP plugin directories. But there are also some other files like “wp-content/plugins/tablepress/libraries/vendor/PhpOffice/PhpSpreadsheet/Calculation/locale/*/config” and “functions” files (in all the locale subdirectories), WooCommerce binaries like “wp-content/plugins/woocommerce/vendor/bin/mozart”, phpcs, phpbf, and also a file outside wp-content: “wp-content/plugins/woocommerce/vendor/bin/mozart”.

The files exist on the server, they have some content, the permissions are the same as other files in the respective directories that do get exported fine.

I see that these files are already missing in the exported ZIP of the back-up, so the problem is in the exporting, not importing process.

I remember this not being the case a couple of years ago.

    Hello @jaanise ,

Thanks for reaching out to us.

I understand that the backup you created using Duplicator misses files and when restoring the backup, these files are missing from the restored website.

Duplicator doesn’t exclude files from the backup unless you filter them out from the backup creation page.

So, there should be a problem with the backup creation.

This might be a conflict from another plugin. Can you please check if the problem gets resolved if you deactivate all the plugins except for Duplicator Pro?

I’m looking forward to hearing back from you.

    Thanks!

(AI really seems to be utilized widely.)

    You’re so quick, Mohammed!

Deactivating all the plugins did not help – those files are still being dropped.

We are not ready to share sensitive information about our website, so I did some debugging myself.

The problem is that these files do not have a file extension.

If the Filters are disabled, everything works all right.

As I wrote, I have the Filters enabled and have added the upload directory path there (“wp-content/uploads”).

I’ve left the extensions filter empty, as I do not want anything filtered by extensions. However, the filter is excluding all the files without an extension in this case.

    Hi?@jaanise,

I would like to thank you for pointing to this issue.

I can reproduce it on my test installation, I can’t see the file wp-content/plugins/woocommerce/vendor/bin/mozart in the backup that I created using the latest Duplicator Lite version.

I reported this bug to the development team to fix it. Rest assured that we won’t hesitate to fix this bug as soon as possible.

Thanks again for your patience and for guiding me to identify this bug.
