I see this question has been asked before. I’ve bounced it to Elementor, and they’ve bounced me back here.

The issue is the only way to get a “featured image” to cover a responsive box is to use it as a background image and set it center, cover. Problem is you can set the dynamic feature image, and it will pull the first feature image from the first item, but then uses that same image for each post.

I don’t know where the problem lies. I still suspect its Elementor, but because it’s a 3rd party plugin it appears they use that as an excuse not to chase the issue down. I will do anything to help make this fix come through. There are more and more projects where I want to use this feature, and I’m stuck using the image widget which can’t do much as far as filling responsive spaces.

    Hello,

First of all, congrats for this awesome plugin. I was looking for this, a custom skin for loops. I really appreciate your plugin!

@techpadllc – I have exactly the same problem! I’m creating a grid using background image from a dynamic feature image and it is creating the loop correctly but just the way you reported: it is using always the featured image of the first post.

    Background image sing featured image

However, if I test using a picture widget it works as expected.
So it is something related just with the background image.

Background image using Featured image + Image widget (inside) using Featured image

Background image using Featured image + Image widget (inside left) using Featured image + Image widget (inside right) using custom image from ACF

I’ve also used background image with a ACF image field and the problem persists.

It is an Elementor bug. Check this github issue:
    https://github.com/pojome/elementor/issues/5253

If you add a reply to it maybe they’ll fix it sooner.
