Hello dear Roland, hello dear fellow pdb-users and fans,

first of all: many thanks for this great plugin. It is one of my top 5 WP plugins.

I set up participants db as described in the Manuals and HowTo; All works well – but the mails (to the Admin and the user ) weren ′t sent at all; No mail arrives.

Note: i can send mails successfully – using two different WP-Plugins:
– WP Mail SMTP (by wpforms)
– Easy WP SMTP (by wp-ecommerce)

however, I can’t get the sign-up-confirmation-mails: The plugin does not send a confirmation email to the admin-email or to the recipient.
What have i done so far: I have read the manual, the How To and surved all the forums here: i checked all the necessary things according the E-Mail-Troubleshooting-chart: https://xnau.com/work/wordpress-plugins/participants-database/participants-database-email-troubleshooting/

Question that arise:

There are several mails that were being sent after a submission has been processed:
- The admin receives an e-mail. in other words: A email is notifying him of the signup,
  The user also gets an E-Mail: This Mail provides them with a direct link to the new record.
Well – the submissions runs well – they get listed immitiately after submission – see the beta-beta (!!!)-page
if you scroll down you see the submission-form:
below this submission-form you can see the: Total Records Found: 13, showing 10 per page.

As mentioned above: All works well with the both plugins:
– Easy WP SMTP
– WP Mail SMTP

the following configuring data are allways the same and well known.
SMTP Host: 10.1.x.x
Port: 25

Also the news of WordPress-system an den Admin also über die Wp_(mail); I get mails as a follow up on comments in postings;

At the moment several questions arise:
– why the messages to the user are not sent nor the messages to the admin?
– do we have any measures & ways to test the mail?
– do i need to do more checks on the smtp configuration?
– are there some other test modes-eg. to do more tests in order to find out what is going wrong here?
– i wonder why both recipients – the admin and the subscriber does not receive any mail: As far as i understand the workflow
both should get a message – at the same time – or am i wrong here?

Looks like one must have [pdb_signup_thanks] code on the page following the signup, otherwise emails are not sent.

is this true!? Of course i have a [pdb_signup_thanks] – page. But nonetheless – it does not work…

Well probably i have just forgotten something in the setup

Sounds like your next step is to set up debugging on your system. Get your PHP error log set up so you can get the debugging statements from the plugin, then put your site into debug mode with WP_DEBUG. Instructions here…

Then make your test submission with the signup form. The plugin will write a report on the emails that were sent (or attempted).

i am on PHP Version 5.6.31 – on a root-server.

There are some logfiles collected – see below:
seems to be some session.save_handler – issues:

Well it looks like a not so well configured php. Seems that there is something wrong with the PHP SessionHandler? Perhaps you recognize something in these logfiles.

Note: With this configuration – with all settings i am able to send mails with the above mentioned plugins

– Easy WP SMTP
– WP Mail SMTP

But – if you want me to collect more data – or get some more infos – just let me know: Do you need more data from php.ini?

Please see here the allready gathered logfiles: – note – i got them yesterday. without any workaround. But sure thing: i can put the site into debug mode with WP_DEBUG.

What you really want to look at is the PHP error log, those are server logs. Yes, you have to have WP_DEBUG on.

Getting the transport working is important, and you got that: but what’s missing is the information of what the plugin is sending to the mailer. The PHP error log will give you that.

i set the debug mode for the site like so:

Note: i can send mails successfully – using three different WP-Plugins:
– WP Mail SMTP (by wpforms)
– Easy WP SMTP (by wp-ecommerce)
– Check email (Version 0.5.5) By Chris Taylor

and i also get mails from the wordpress-system – eg. when a new comment is getting postet or – when the system is updated to version 4.9.1 . All that goes very very well.

conclusio; well i guess that i miss some preliminary settings. Probably i just have forgottten some set-up-details….

It shows that the function error_log is disabled. That function must be enable to see logging from WordPress and Participants Database.

Also looks like your sessions are not correctly configured. I’d suggest sharing that with your web host to see if they can fix the issue.

hello dear Roland,

first of all – this thread is resolve!!!

we have just updated the configuration of PHP on the server ….my serveradmin did some corrections. And now we successfully have fixed the issues.

conclusion: now all is working perfectly.

– the site-admin gets a notification E-Mail
– the subscriber gets a notification E-Mail – with a link to the site where he can complete the registration

– ps. if i find out some more details – about what caused the issues if the discussion with my serveradmin gives me back some of what was happening in the background what was causing the erros — then i come back and report all these findings.
