I’m not sure if this plugin is necessary for me. Thanks in advance for your advice.

For the most part, each image I use on a website is only used once on the site and the sizes may not be the same for each photo. Should I upload a 2x version of each image (so if I need 500×500 on the page, upload 1000×1000 instead) and then let the plugin create a version that is half the resolution and serve the appropriate image based on the device being used?

Is this is good approach or, more likely, am I missing something here. I use the Avada Theme. If this is a good approach, if there isn’t one standard size for each image, will this still work?

Thanks for helping a newbie out.

    Hi @hkau,

    You should follow this tutorial:
    https://meowapps.com/wp-retina-2x-tutorial/

The free plugin creates retina versions of the sized images. You can upload a full-size version of it if you are using it directly (through the Retina dashboard). If you want to upload a file that will be cut in half (basically), you will need to use the Pro version which has a specific Upload process for that.

But I am not sure why you are doing this ?? You normally just need to upload the largest image you can, then use the size that corresponds to the width of the container of your website; you don’t need to ask yourself any other questions… and Retina would run in the back of all this.

Thanks for your quick response, Jordy. In my use case, each container could be a different size — 1/4 column, 1/2 column, different padding, etc. There wouldn’t be an image size to choose (assuming you’re talking about the size dropdown list). It wouldn’t make sense to choose thumbnail, medium, grid, etc. Make sense?

In this case, you could pick the Large size, and let the browser to pick the best one based on this ?? That issue is not really related to Retina in fact, it’s just the Web in general. If a Retina image is available, it will be picked instead of the standard one, so it gives that advantage, but it’s not really the answer to your question. It’s more about the theme and how it’s built ??

Thanks Jordy. Your responsiveness is outstanding. I’ll continue learning and may be back for your plugin yet.
