Our WordPress website was built with Xing Ecommerce Theme with Woocommerce plugin and hosted by Godaddy Managed WordPress. The products are digital-download document templates for Engineers & Scientists in the Life Science, Critical Facilities industries. Hence website is very straight forward. Customers normally know what they want to purchase.
    1) We are thinking of migrating from Xing theme to Storefront – as Storefront is more compatible with WooCommerce? Any comments?
    2) What is involved to migrate the website to Storefront (free version)? Is there a plugin to do this? Can it be done by one who only has basic WP knowledge?

    Thank you.

Themes are changed by installing and activating, then changing settings to meet your requirements.
Advantage of this is your existing theme is only deactivated should you want to change back.
    Its not a migration.

    Hi @lokery,

@kellscolin2020 is absolutely right. Changing a theme is intentionally straightforward.

If you are concerned that there could be complications in switching themes, I would encourage you to set up a staging/development site so you can try out the theme change there. That way you can see how this works before you make changes to the live site.

Let us know if you have any questions.

@3sonsdevelopment and @kellscolin2020 thanks for the advice.

My website has 13 plugins (including WooCommerce) & about 60 products uploaded.

Can you comment whether I start fresh building a new website on the staged site; compared to changing themes.

    (@kellscolin2020)

The staged site should be an exact copy of our existing site.
When the staged site is up try the change of theme to storefront to see if its going to work.

Also you stated you want to change the theme to storefront but I’ve not seen any comments on what you actually expect to change or improve.

Your original comment “1) We are thinking of migrating from Xing theme to Storefront – as Storefront is more compatible with WooCommerce? Any comments?”

Your question “Also you stated you want to change the theme to storefront but I’ve not seen any comments on what you actually expect to change or improve.”

The existing theme has not had an update last two years – suspecting its end-of-life. So I thought better to change theme now otherwise theme is too far behind WordPress & other plugins.

So you cannot have a “blank sheet” when you stage a site?

    Colin Kells

    (@kellscolin2020)

If you only want to change the theme I would suggest stage a copy of your current website.
Then change theme on the staged site to storefront and check its working.

Otherwise yes you can start with a blank sheet
