• I am just starting my first website with the aim of using it to sell my audio books. However, I am finding it near impossible to upload my large book files. I have broken the book down into two files of circa 300MB and have seen in forums and Youtube how to increase the upload limit in WordPress. I increased this to 400MB but then got ‘HTTP error’ messages. I also looked at ftp but this seemed very complicated and also appeared to be blocked by the firewall.
Could anyone advise the best way forward/simplest way to get audiobooks on WordPress site and please could you dumb down the technical bits to someone who only started building a website two days ago. Any help very much appreciated.

  • It might be easiest to log into your backend cPanel and simply upload the books from there. Then just place a link to the download on your site and you’re done!

Uploading huge files directly from WordPress can run into all sorts of complications like your PHP configuration, what your hosting provider allows etc etc.

Thanks, having wrestled with this all day I think I found two possible solutions. Yours and a plug in called FTP to media which bizarrely (after I had spent ages faffing about with filezilla) did not need ftp at all. I loaded the files into a wordpress media admin file on my server and then used the plug in to upload into the media library. Unfortunately somewhere along the way something else has happened which has stopped any changes on my site taking effect and so unable to test either. According to other searches this could be a full cache, but I have emptied my browser cache and it is still doing it. It is really one step forward and two back at the moment and I am starting to consider nuclear options of clearing everything and starting again
