  • Hi,

    Why would you want to cloak affiliate links?

    Just asking…

    Well, Yoast and other Seo specialists recommend cloaking affiliate links:

    Does anybody know whether should I set up “nofollow” tags for robots in “Title and Meta tags” section for Easy Affiliate Link plugin ?

    @scorp_pl,

    Well, I don’t see the point in cloaking affiliate links. Afterall, visitors know your not selling the item, just marketing them right?

    Its all about transparncy and contrary to ‘experts’, cloaking is considered a violation by Google.

    Hi Scorp_pl!

    You can definitely cloak links. Contrary to what Rik0399 said, not all link cloaking is a violation. It is a violation when you deliberately mislead someone to another place than what you said. That is what Google doesn’t like.

    Example: If you said you were sending people to a site about selling Laundry detergent, and using an affiliate link that is cloaked, it would be fine if that link went to that site about selling Laundry detergent. However, if that same link went to a site about something else, then that is not good at all.

    Scorp_pl, you may find setting up your affiliate links as nofollow may be the correct choice.

    Hi Scorp_pl!

    I beg to differ to what Nile Flores has said.

    But hey, don’t listen to me…go and listen to Google’s Matt Cutts who implicitly states this in his video tutorial …

    “ANY type of cloaking is against Googles Guideline”
