EC3 and PostLists Extensibility

I am using the EC3 add on for postlists (great plugin btw) but I am coming into one simple problem with probably a not so simple solution. I want to set the order using the EC3 event date and time rather than the post date and time. I was thinking that being able to use placeholders for setting the order would be nice but from a programing stance I don’t think its that simple. (I don’t know enough to know how to make that work.

Is there a simple solution that would at least allow me to add an order by event date to the drop down?
