It is interesting that nowhere in the descriptions written about this plugin does it mention the fact that it is only “free” for ten products! I have fallen for this and installed an ecwid Shopping Cart, created categories, uploaded carefully prepared photos and created my 10 “free” products only to discover that my eleventh product will cost me $12.50 a month.

Now I ask you, how many stores have only 10 products? How on earth then, does this qualify as a free plugin? This is nothing more than “sales by deception!” True, they tell no outright lies. They just neglect to tell the “whole truth!” I just realized they do tell at least one lie: it does not take “only 5 minutes to set up!” Maybe if you already know the program and practiced a lot you could do something that you could define as “setup”, but I doubt even this. I think it is nothing more than advertising hyperbole!

Then to add insult to injury, I find that I am no longer able to edit my website. When I try to visit the URL for my WordPrewss editor I get a “Page not found” page! It has been two days now and I have not as yet had a resolution to this problem. I cannot at this point say definitively that ecwid is the culprit, but it seems like an interesting coincidence that this occurred immediately after installing the ecwid Shopping Cart plugin!

I would have given them a one star except for the fact that their store is actually quite nice. If ecwid Shopping Cart was not so expensive, my business so small and their sales tactics so repulsive I would probably buy it.

I am reserving judgement on the broken website editor issue. I may come back and reduce my rating to a one star.

  • Hello,

My name is Matt, I am from Ecwid team.

Thank you for the feedback. I am very sorry for the confusion.

We never hide our pricing and of course we’re not trying to fool our clients. We do have Free plan, which never expires, and a lot of our 500,000+ registered sellers have been using our Free plan for a long time for their online store. If those had been “sales by deception”, we’d have lost them all immediately. I personally hate the services that are silent about their prices until you receive a ‘Pay to continue using’ warning. We don’t do so. Ecwid pricing plans are clear, open and quite simple with no hidden costs.

On our WordPress plugin description page, we of course mention that you can use the plugin and Ecwid itself for free – we do proud of how many features we offer on our Free plan and how many sellers we provide with ability to sell online for free. That is a unique offer. At the same time, we placed a lot of links to our site https://www.ecwid.com in the plugin description to give more details about Ecwid. There is also a link to our pricing page (https://www.ecwid.com/pricing) – the ‘Free’ word in the plugin description is a link to the page describing the plans. As to the site ecwid.com, one of the first things you will see there is again our Plans page with the details and clear explanation of the features, product limits and costs: https://www.ecwid.com/pricing

Anyway, as I already said, the last thing we want is to confuse you. So, we’re going to add more information about pricing in our WordPress plugin description to make it more obvious.

Again, please accept my apologies for this situation.

I find that I am no longer able to edit my website. When I try to visit the URL for my WordPrewss editor I get a “Page not found” page!

That’s very strange. Ecwid plugin in fact doesn’t affect the admin area availability or the settings pages addresses. Anyway, can you please provide a link to your site, I will look into the issue and try to help you.

    Thanks.
