Edit gallery to open images in new window

In the editor, you can add it to the html. Or, if you use the visual mode, after you add the image, click on the link button and set it there.

in the editor, the gallery shows like [gallery oreder=.. columns..]

I think i should edit the media.php file in order to open each gallery thumbnail in new window, but which line should be edited? (no, i don’t want a pop-up window with the full image.)

I am speaking of the editor in WP under add a new post. There is no
gallery so I think you must be speaking of a plugin.

I use this on many photos in one of my blogs so I know either way I mentioned works.

Just to avoid any confusions, like the ones above, it is about the [gallery] shortcode you can insert into your posts.
