• Although the automatic large/medium/thumbnail scaling always also keeps the original (“full size”) in the Media Library, it appears that using “Edit Image” to scale or crop replaces the original file completely. Is there a way to keep both the original and edited versions? I sometimes have a big banner image but also want to grab a small piece of it for a different purpose – yes, I can do the editing outside WordPress (and always have before now), but it would be handy to do it all in the Media Library.

    Hi OsakaWebbie,

It appears to me that this functionality requires creating a new ticket request to the WordPress core, which you can do using the following link. Kindly make sure that you read the guidelines before creating new tickets.

I’m not sure how to interpret your response. It doesn’t appear to be a bug, but just the way WordPress works. Are you saying that there isn’t currently a way to do that, even with a plugin or something? Before writing a feature request and waiting for it to get implemented (if it ever would), I just wanted to know if there was a way to do it now. If not a direct way to do a sorta “Save As”, is there a way to duplicate an image, so that I can then edit the extra copy? I found the plugin https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/lh-copy-media-file/ but it hasn’t been updated in two years and is rumored to no longer work.
