first, I tried to edit an existing location and changes the location details but upon saving the url or permalinks didn’t change e.g. remains as /london-hotel

could it be that a new location with the same name added which resulted to -2 ?

basically someone added an event but left out the county so the map did not show nor the google calendar . I then edited event to add location county but to do this you have to clear entered details and re enter all location details. after doing this it created the second location rather than update excisting location

if you’re creating a new location, then it’s inevitable, but you can edit the original location in the admin area.

i was editing in admin, it would not allow me to just add the missing county, i had to clear location and re enter all details, then it created new location 2

It sounds like what you trying to do is not really edit the second location, but delete and just use the original?

In that case, you might be better off assigning the original location to new events, then delete the duplicate.

In admin i have event pending, i click edit to view event and see location is missing the COUNTY. It will not allow me to just add county i have to clear location then re enter, it then creates this new ( altered) location as location 2.

So is that normal not being able to edit location by just adding one field?

No, unfortunately it’s not possible to do that.

So i will in effect duplicate the location each time i edit a user submission?

hmm, are you editing the location using Events > Locations > choose a location then edit OR you are editing the location directly when editing an event?

directly when editing an event prior to publishing

You need to edit the location itself.
