• I need to edit my login pages to stop bots slamming all my sites, trying to get in. I have the program and linking text, but need to know which page I edit and where do I place the “thing” so it appears after a password is put in but before submit? Which code do I look for?

I haven’t edited since my amnesia so this is like new to me

  • Hey there,

Can you please provide more information? What exactly do you want to achieve? What program and linking text are you talking about? Hope you understand.

I want to add a Captcha script that was done for me a while back. I have the linking text and linking image text but need to know where on the login page it goes. Need the file name, too. I will center the code so the image shows properly but I want it where I stated above.

No one knows which file to edit and where the linking text goes? Someone please help out a non-newbie but amnesia victim. I sort of want to backup the original and just keep attempting to place it … but part of me is a little afraid of really screwing up my sites. I’d rather learn than pay a freelancer

    Hi,

Are you trying to prevent bots from making new user accounts or stop brute force attacks?

There are many plugins available which will put captcha on your login page so you don’t have to edit any files directly. If you are trying to prevent brute force attacks, captcha probably won’t help much. Try to review https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Brute_Force_Attacks

Thanks. Which plugin do you suggest? I’m trying to do both, stop bot registrations and brute force logins. I have plugins that stops brute forces at three attempts then a 24-hour ban. But one plugin doing both would use less resources and limit my plugins.

I’ve got one guy using the same ip for weeks, trying to get one site with Admin123. Every 24 hours he’s back. I’ve not banned his ip as I want to see how long he’ll try. And, no, there is no Admin******* ??

I don’t use anything for the captcha so I can’t recommend one for that. However, I do use Wordfence Security which has been working well for my site. You can see the reviews at https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wordfence/

    Hope that helps!

I’ve used it but wasn’t impressed. I prefer a Captcha script as bots will have a hard time with it.
