• Hi there,

I adjusted my functions.php and footer.php files in a Twenty Eleven child theme to add a second menu in my page footer. You can see it here: https://eldestonly.com/

However, the “Edit Menus” tool in the WordPress admin dashboard is not updating the menu. I selected “Footer Menu” under “Theme locations,” but when I move/update/remove menu items, the live site is not changing. It’s displaying all of my pages with their full titles. HELP! (They are way too long and there are way too many of them and they won’t fit on one line and it looks terrible!)

    Thanks in advance!

  • What happens when you use the original, unedited, parent theme?

The parent theme doesn’t have a menu in the footer, so I can’t test that … But I can tell you that the primary menu at the top of the page (which WAS in the original, unedited, parent theme, though I’ve adjusted the styling) works fine with the “Edit Menu” tool.

Then it would seem that you have created an issue in your child theme.

Well, yes. ?? Unfortunately, I’m not sure what could create that kind of issue. I assume there’s something in the code that’s telling the menu to automatically pull in all my pages and their titles, and it’s overriding the WordPress tool. I’m just not sure how to figure out what that is, or how to fix it.

I’m sorry but it’s impossible to determine – from here – what the issue is. I can only suggest that you start with a new child theme and bring your customisations over one-by-one until you find the relevant pierce of rogue code.
