I’ve set up a site with BuddyPress and S2Member because I want users to be able to post stories using a GravityForm, but I only want logged in users to be able to see the stories. It appears that S2Member Level0-4 users cannot be the author of Custom Post Types (or posts in general). Is this a limitation of S2Member, or is there a way to allow S2Member Level 0 users to submit/publish posts?

  • You can use the Capability Manager Enhanced plugin to add such a capability to any s2Member role.

I installed that plugin and added the capability, but it didn’t work. So I’m assuming this is not something S2Member is capable of doing?

If it’s not working for you, then either you haven’t done it correctly or you have another problem on your site.

You see, it’s not really a question of whether s2Member is “capable” of this or not. s2Member roles are just WP subscriber roles with a particular capability added. You can add (or subtract) as many other capabilities to or from s2Member roles as you want. This is core WordPress functionality.

Got it – I found out that even if the ‘author’ – being the person submitting the Gravity Form – doesn’t have edit_post capabilities, they will still be listed as the author of the custom post type post that is published as a result of their form being filled out, so this isn’t a problem any more.

    Thanks!
