• I added a new page template via WP admin, then have edited and updated the page using an html editor and ftp client. Now, when I navigate to the new page via the admin UI I’m not seeing the latest content. If I download the file directly using my ftp client, it is the latest version.

    They are obviously not synched.

What’s the best way around this?

What’s the best way to add a new page using an existing page template?

    Thanks

  • Are you setting an actual WordPress page to use the new template and then going there via the generated permalink or are you trying to access the php file directly?

I ended up editing the php file (and css pages) directly since editing the file via Admin didn’t seem to actually be publishing the updates correctly.

I was definitely a little unclear on how to simply add a new page, not necessarily a new template. Seems more complicated than it should be! And I’m a web designer!

Is there a good way to add a new page NOT using the WP admin? I know these pages are built dynamically so I can see why this is not recommended.

    Thanks for your time.

The .php files are (sometimes) templates that can be used by any number of pages. Pages are just database entries that dynamically loaded based on what url is entered. You add new ones in the pages area of the administrator section. Youtube training video below:

    Cool.

Yes, what I did was to copy/rename page.php to my new page-pageName.php and loaded this up via ftp. Only problem being that any edits to this new page via the admin area were not reflected once published.

What’s the best way to create a new template?

    Templates

I started by reading the four entries “Template File Articles”.
