Edited post can’t retain status

I can’t set my system up so an edited post retains it’s status. I want to make it so that if a user edits and saves a post, it stays pending if it was already pending, or stays published if it was already published.

I feel like leaving this field blank should do that, but it doesn’t work, and instead publishes my post no matter if it was pending or published before editing.

I feel like this worked a couple of versions ago, but I’m not quite sure. Does anyone have a solution to this?
