Editing menus/ wordpress dashboard doesn’t appear for Author

So I assigned one of my users to the role, “author.” When they login, they can’t see any additional menu items – no wordpress menus – the website doesn’t look any different from a regular user.
I want them to be able to upload photos to the media library, edit portfolio etc, edit/add posts etc.

How can they access the menus?
