Editing on Larger Screens
-
Hi,
Not everyone uses phones, tablets and laptops.
In today’s environment, there are many desktop computers, including widescreen monitors that are used, especially by professionals and prosumers.
For these people, having the editing tools and status buttons are better suited to be in the center, not in the left or right.
This is a screenshot of an typical all-in-one iMac with just 27″.
A lot of people do use monitors of 24″, 27″, 32″, 34″ and even 38″ inches.
Stats won’t show it if you look overall users, but a lot of professional use such monitors and these are the people that in general would look for more productivity.
For these people, dragging your mouse for each block and action to the top left or right could be slowing their workflow.
It’s one of the reasons why in future Windows OS, the controls would be in center, it’s one of the reasons why many now center their website navigation in the center and it’s one of the reasons why controls on many sites moved from the side to the top.
In my opinion, WordPress sidebar should be a top bar and Gutenberg controls should be centered.
Again, not everyone uses laptops, we should think about these people.
Moving the controls to the center would greatly benefit the users with desktop monitors and would slightly improve the experience for laptop and other users.
Check the proposal in the screenshot.
If anyone wants, he/she can add this to GitHub’s page.
