So ive noticed a few times now that some of the templates that are available (like imagination and several3) have ways to change backgrounds and headers within dashboard. Well, not only does this not always work but, why am I unable to edit the actual .php files and override the dashboard? (To this point it changes nothing)

Can anyone help me out here?

    Thanks.

You should be able to. Are you getting any errors messages when you try to amend any files via Admin/Appearance/Editor?

There are no errors when I do it through the dashboard, but nothing changes using file paths [i.e. url(images/BG.jpg)] but if I link to a photobucket link for example it will normally work.

However I should still be able to edit the files directly through ftp, correct?

    Thanks.

Yes but if these are images used with CSS, remember that the url needs to be an absolute or be relative to the theme’s stylesheet file.
