• I was at a total loss when I tried to edit a text widget in the latest version of WordPress and was only offered the choice of where to place the text widget – no choice of editing the text!!

I depend on the ability to edit the text, because I use the same widget with slightly different information every 3 months.

See for instance the left side bar at https://ssnet.org/ The image for the lesson cover at the top of the left side bar changes every three months.

I was finally able to access the text widget in the “Customize” option, but even there, I could not see the source for the location of the image.

It’s fine with me if others don’t want to look “under the hood,” but some of us need that option.

Is it possible that what I’m experiencing is theme-related? I’m using the Weaver II Pro theme, which is the predecessor of Weaver Xtreme.

  • Do you see the “Text” tab (next to “Visual”) in the widget? Clicking that should show you the HTML source of the widget.

This is quite an annoying change, I’d agree, since you can’t reliably use the Text widget for raw HTML anymore, since it will behave the same way as the post editor. Thankfully, when 4.8.1 comes out there’ll be a new Custom HTML widget just for this purpose.
