OK – I’ve created my (first) child theme and it’s going fine. Any idea who I change the background color in the content and widgets area of the site? I’m looking and looking through the .css file and a bunch of php files but, I’m not having any luck.

You now need to start adding to your child’s stylesheet. Try using Firefox with the Firebug add-on to work out what CSS you need to add.
