• I always cringe when people fix what isn’t broken and the changes to the editor are no exception.

Simply stated, the visual mode doesn’t work for me, at all. The content simply isn’t visible in that mode. Text mode works, but that is needlessly time consuming to work with.

I’ve tried reinstalling WP 4.1 to avail.

    Any suggestions?

  • Hi,

Disable all your plugins and test. If that fixes it enable plugins one at a time until problem reoccurs.

what theme and plugins are you using (active and inactive)?

    Thread Starter SRH

    (@srh)

The theme is Gabfire’s Advanced Newspaper. I deactivated all the plugins, but the problem persisted. I checked the theme developer’s forum, but no one there has reported a similar problem with this theme.

    (@theotherlebowski)

go back to the default wordpress theme, 2014 and see if the problem goes away. if it does then it’s the theme and you may be the first user of the theme to present this issue (someone has to be!)

No joy. The problem persisted with 2014.

hmm… can’t see anything too odd in that list, they all seem pretty current. let’s try and all or nothing approach: deactivate all your plugins and set the theme to 2014 and see if that makes a difference…

if not, you may have to reupload the tinymce files as something may be corrupted. try that above double whammy first though…

Read second post in this thread.

Currently have same issue with omega theme 4.1 Visual mode editor will not work these past 3 days ever since I updated to version 4.1 Thought I had done something wrong but apparently I’m not alone with this issue.
I tried deleting all plug ins as suggested above but it didn’t make a difference. Is it possible to roll back my site to the previous (no problem) site ?

    If so how ?

    Thanks

@davidbruce88 Please start a new post. It’s not correct to insert your issue in someone else’s thread.

Well, I’ve tried everything I can think of. The only way I can edit is in text mode and that provides only a narrow column to work in. Three other sites I run, have not had this problem.

If I have to tear it all down and start from scratch, I can guarantee I will strip out the code that permits automatic updates and maintain a strict, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, policy.

    Thread Starter SRH

I’ve noticed others posting similar problems, (visual editor not functioning, editor is narrow in width, etc.) This leads me to ask a question. Is there a way to totally replace the editor. I’m guessing there isn’t, but I’m grasping at straws, trying to avoid having to scrap everything on the site and start from scratch.

    Hey,

Are you still having this problem? My visual editor just stopped working all of a sudden the other day and I cannot seem to figure out how to fix the problem (diactivated the plugins, cleared the browsing data, etc., but no luck). Working in the text editor is very slow, so I would love to get back to the visual mode..
