I have two sites so far that were just auto-updated to 5.6.1. One of them won’t load the editor, just a blank page. No log or dashboard errors, no dashboard notices. The one that does load fine only has text-based blocks and some images, nothing fancy, but even the simplest pages on the site with troubles won’t load. My local instance (also 5.6.1) of the site loads the editor so it looks like a server issue?

Inspect shows dozens of jQuery errors.

Anyone else having this issue or have suggestions?

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Twenty-One theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

Thank you! Unfortunately in troubleshooting mode it’s still loading a blank editor, but at least that’s one possibility eliminated.

Could there be an issue at the web host I should investigate?

Ok, try downloading WordPress again, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), and delete then replace your copies of everything on the server except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings.

Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

Sadly still no dice. Other suggestions?

    Hi,

Please tried to get back to the stable version 5.6 as 5.6.1 is a maintenance version.

    Thank You

Hello, I have similar errors since the 5.6.1 update. Have found that any Cache Plugins are affecting the website visual and or dashboard.

My fix that has worked at moment is to ‘clear cache’ using the plugin (if I have dashboard access) or just disable the plugin via CPanel.

This must be a bug in 5.6.1???????????

Hm, that wouldn’t necessarily be a bug in 5.6.1.

All good caching plugins should purge themselves after core, plugin, and theme updates.

I purged the cache in W3 Total Cache and disabled it with no effect. But had already figured out plugins and theme aren’t the issue because Troubleshoot mode didn’t help. My local version — a recent copy of the site as I just launched it a couple weeks ago — is 5.6.1 and has no issues.

The client said, “I went to open the site in another window and it wouldn’t load because of an ISP attack” but only when she’s logged in. However, the site loads just fine for me either way. Just not the editor.

UPDATE: I downgraded to 5.6 (and switched off auto-update for 5.6.1) and it works again as normal. Which still leaves me wondering what exactly broke it and if I’ll have issues with the next 5.6.x or 5.7.

If anyone else experienced the blank editor page it would be helpful to know, especially if you found a solution. Thanks!

UPDATE 2: It auto-updated anyway but now works fine. Quite confusing.

Thank you to James for your help!
