The Plugin version of the upcoming Gutenberg Version 10.7.0 messes up Astra’s custom editor widths

    Test:
    Install Astra 3.4.6
    Install Gutenberg Version 10.7.0
create a Page with a cover block set to “full width”
look at the editor width: it’s narrow
now in a new tab deactivate the plugin version of Gutenberg
refresh the Page editor with the cover block – its now the correct width.

See image. Compare how Astra looks when Gutenberg plugin 10.7.0 is deactivated versus activated. The built in gutenberg works, the plugin (upcoming version) does not have the correct widths.

  • Hello @steve-pheriche

It is not recommended to use the latest versions of the Gutenberg plugin as they are still in the testing phase, and could break a few things or behave differently with the theme or third-party plugins.

The final and stable updates from the Gutenberg plugin are released in the latest updates of WordPress.

We try and maintain full compatibility with the latest WordPress versions.

Hope that helps and answers your query. ??

Hi, OK. I’m aware that the Gutenberg Plugin is divergent.
I’m building a site which will launch shortly after WP5.8 . WP5.8 will have FSE, and the core and gutenberg teams are making big changes which is what we are seeing here. I’ll file a bug on Github Gutenberg regarding this issues but it’s put a cramp in my development cycle.

Just as long as the Astra team are aware of the breaking changes for the July release.

Here’s the Git report, it seemingly affects all themes. Gutenberg remains a disaster.

    Hello @steve-pheriche

There’s no need to worry! The stable version of the Gutenberg features available in the WordPress block editor will be well tested by the WordPress team as well as the community.

Further, we shall do and make necessary changes once the final beta version is available for us.

Hope that helps. ?? Please do mark the topic as resolved!

Hi I wasn’t worrying, I was just pointing out an issue with the block width targeting. I thought it worth you guys raising the bug on GH.

As it happens I raised it and the bug has been resolved with PR: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/32454

And was fixed in Gutenberg v10.7.3

    So the issue is closed.
