• Hello, I have allowed every capability for the Editor role pertaining to users; however, the Editor role cannot edit other Editors or a custom role I created that has the same capabilities as a Subscriber. Editors can edit Subscribers without issue but cannot edit Editors or the custom role Wine Club. I’ve even made Editors Level 10 with no luck.

The only other relevant plugin in use is User Switching which doesn’t actually control permissions/capabilities. Is it possible that the custom role created has special permissions somehow? I doubt this because it was created using Capability Manager Enhanced. Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks for reporting this. It is is resolved in Capability Manager Enhanced 1.5.4.

Thanks @kevinb I see that Editors can now edit Subscribers and my custom role with the Subscriber capabilities; however, they cannot edit Editors. Also, Admins cannot edit Editors for some reason. I see the Edit text link at the Users list but clicking on it while logged in as an Admin or Editor shows me the “You do not have permission to edit this user”. Assuming this is a bug as well? Thanks again for your help.

@kevinb I’m experiencing this issue on a different site which is part of a multisite network. I activated the plugin for the entire network, changed the editor role level to 10 and checked every single capability but the editors cannot edit any other users. There is no edit link at all for any other user. They can remove users but not edit. They can add an existing user from the network but cannot create a brand new user.

I have logged out, logged back in, cleared cache and reloaded but cannot figure this out. There are no network settings that I can see so I’m not sure how to solve this. Any help is appreciated!

I just tried this with the current WP and CME versions, and am unable to create the error. My Editor can edit other Editors. You are referring the the Users listing on the sub-site, correct? Check the role capabilities on that site and make sure it has edit_users.

Try temporarily deactivating other plugins and switch to the default theme to make sure other code is not imposing a restriction or conflict.

Hi @kevinb, I deactivated almost all plugins and switched to the default twenty sixteen. I also updated to 4.4.2 and all plugins are now up to date. Editors still can not edit anyone but themselves but I can remove any user including Admins. Currently during testing the Editor role is level 10 with all capabilities enabled.

    Active plugins:

    • Advanced Custom Fields Pro
    • BackWPup
    • Capability Manager Enhanced
    • Contact Form 7
    • Contact Form DB
    • Google Analytics by Yoast
    • Google Analytics Dashboard for WP
    • Google Captcha (reCAPTCHA) by BestWebSoft
    • Google No CAPTCHA reCAPTCHA by WisdmLabs
    • Intuitive Custom Post Order
    • Post Thumbnail Editor
    • Resize Image After Upload
    • WordPress MU Domain Mapping
    • WP Multisite SSO

Would the fact that this is a multisite have anything to do with this? I am referring to a sub-site and am sure the Editor role has all the appropriate permissions for the relevant site (and no other sites).

I’ve now tried Role Editor and Members plugins with the same exact results. The Editor can Remove other users but cannot edit them. The Edit link is missing when hovering over a user in the list and if I try to access a user edit screen directly I get the “you do not have permission” error.

I tested these same settings on a different sub-site within the same network with a different user and have the same results.

I tested this on a completely different network and got the same results. Both networks have registration disabled if that matters.

It doesn’t seem to matter if I network activate the plugin or activate on a site by site basis. I’m at a loss here as to what this could be. Any help is greatly appreciated. I’d love to share a super admin login with you privately if you’re willing to help. Thanks in advance.

Ah ha! I found a blog post from 2011 which fixes the issue for me. For anyone else having issues with this, please read the post. To any role/capability plugin developers out there, it seems obvious to include this in their plugin.
