I’ve been a longtime WP user and this has never happened before. I can’t figure it out!

I’m trying to make basic changes to the sidebar of the home page at H4.org. I have tried both to embed a Flickr flash widget and I’ve tried to hand-code a link into the sidebar. Neither one of the is reflecting, yet they’re there in the code.

I have just upgraded wordpress, reinstalled the theme, everything. I am using a slightly modified version of Kurbick (custome header, rearranged meta data). Nothing else had changed. This just started happening all of a sudden.

  • Remember to press CTRL and F5 simultaneously when viewing an updated page/site. Or try emptying your browser cache. This should ensure that your web browser fetches a fresh copy of the page rather than serving up an out-dated copy from your own cache.

Are you running any caching plugins? Have you tried deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

This just started happening all of a sudden.

    How recently?

I tried those options before posting, but it suddenly occurred to me what was wrong. When I upgraded automatically, WordPress reinstalled a stock version of Kubrick. So I FTPed by back-up customized Kubrick, but instead of uploading it to my themes folder, I accidentally uploaded it into the preexisting default folder (so I had a default folder inside a default folder.

The changes made in the dashboard theme editor were taking, but the theme that was displaying was the upper-level, unedited theme. All is fixed now.

A good idea might be to change the name of the custom theme you are making….then you won’t have to worry about it being affected by upgrades
