So after being on the phone with my webhosting server I have gotten no closer to being able to edit my site easily – I can use the classic editor however that means working blind – the posts are in white on a white background so you get to highlight and hope you are in the right place to make your changes – and everything is in code language – which has one of my pages looking really dumb because the whole first paragraph is in heading style – despite it being tagged as a paragraph – I have run the health app and gotten a couple of “errors” sorted but when I ran a BackWPup I gained the following:

Oh and if I try to go to my website – in public view on a safari browser = I get “the serer encountered and internal error” -it works fine on Firefox & Microsoft edge!

I have disabled all my plug-ins and reactivated them one at a time – and I changed the theme – actually that was interesting because when I used the Draco theme – I could actually see my site – on safari –

I would really apricate an administrator reaching out to me – I posted before and a very nice lady from Portugal reached out to me because she was having the same issues – it got resolved for her – but I haven’t had anyone respond who can direct me HELP!!
    thanks

Visit Users > Your Profile in your site’s Dashboard and make sure that “Disable the visual editor when writing” is _not_ checked.

Hi James _ that box is not checked – I have been trouble shooting and I seem to have got it down to a problem with the My Calendar plug-in – when I deactivate it the REST API availability problem goes away and the loop back isn’t an issue – but I still have to use the classic editor to make any changes – I apricate any insight you can give me with this problem

Hm, can you describe the trouble with the editor when the My Calendar plugin is deactivated, or is it the same as before still?

    Thread Starter Tammyphi

    (@tammyphi)

The editor is the same as before – it just takes care of the Health check errors that occur for REST API availability and the loopback error – which when I run it on the individual plugins show that the problem is with the My Calendar

HTTP Requests HTTP requests should be working as expected.
REST API availability The REST API request failed due to an error.
Error encountered: (0) cURL error 28: Operation timed out after 10004 milliseconds with 0 bytes received
Communication with www.ads-software.com www.ads-software.com is reachable from your server.
Background updates A plugin has prevented updates by disabling wp_version_check().
No version control systems were detected.
Your installation of WordPress doesn’t require FTP credentials to perform updates.
All of your WordPress files are writable.
    Loopback request
The loopback request to your site failed, this may prevent WP_Cron from working, along with theme and plugin editors.
Error encountered: (0) cURL error 28: Operation timed out after 10004 milliseconds with 0 bytes received

This is the health check read out with the My Calendar plugin active – I don’t want to deactivate it – it looks good on the public view – it just seems to throw errors

Ok, I recommend reporting the REST API issue at https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/my-calendar/ so the plugin’s developers and support community can help you with this.

For the editor though, this may still be a plugin or theme conflict. On Health Check’s troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in.

This will rule-out the plugins and theme as a cause, and allow you to identify specifically which one, without affecting any normal visitors to your site.

hi James – I will definitely report the issue = I have gone thru and deactivated and re-activated all the plugins – that’s how I found the calendar issue – I have changed the theme – funny thing about that – when I try to use a Safari browser – I can’t see my site – when I changed the theme – it showed up – and it’s not the computer I can see it on the firefox browser on the same computer – it made no difference to the editor issue – Not trying to be difficult but there’s a whole lot of strange happening with the site – and I actually just re-built the whole thing – it worked great till the update to 5.1.1

    Who’s your hosting provider?

    Thread Starter Tammyphi

    (@tammyphi)

Telus in Alberta Canada – I have them looking into it – the one fellow did find some code that appeared to be missing but its’ kind of a needle in a haystack situation – if you have some suggestions as to where they can look that would be awesome!

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

    Ah, I’m glad I asked: https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/46442

In short, you hosting provider is injecting a tracking pixel into one of WordPress’s core JavaScript files for whatever reason.

Due to a security change in WordPress 5.1, that’s now broken, which is of course breaking the JavaScript file they’re trying to inject a tracking pixel into.

Suffice it to say, no hosting provider should _ever_ do this. Modifying core WordPress files never works out, your hosting provider should never modify your files regardless, and it’s a security concern (which is why it was broken by a security update).

According to one of the folks involved in that thread:

Solution that worked for me was logging into ATT hosting, finding Analytics, poking around till I found Web Analytics | Advanced | Manage Pixel Code. Set to off, clear cache, hard refresh on admin / editor and it’s fixed.

Another person involved there said something similar for Telus, but not as descriptive:

There’s an option on my host’s front end which offers the option to switch off the pixel tracking.

If neither of that works out for you, I recommend contacting Telus’s support, since it sounds like they’re aware of the issue.

If none of that works out, we have some recommended hosting providers who do not modify core files at https://www.ads-software.com/hosting/

Okay I will give that a try – thanks so much James!

James you are a white Knight – thank you so very much! It worked!! Found the setting easily enough and got it remedied!
