I am liking this plugin. Will you guys look to make it compatible with Elementor? I would love the ability to edit the episode page inside Elementor page builder. Also, my episode page appears to be full width with the sidebar appearing below content. How can I make it so that the template is right sidebar? Thank you

Hi there, and thanks for the message. Yes this topic has been on our developers minds quite a bit lately (just giving more control over the /podcast page, which in turn would make it more editable with tools like Elementor or even Gutenberg). This is a pretty complicated topic to tackle, especially considering legacy users who might have already modified how their podcast pages appear, but in short yes this is something we’re looking at.

Awesome, I think it would be a great thing.

Is there a way to currently change the template to one with a right sidebar?

This is something you can do through updating your theme’s archive.php style if you’d like. Or as described in this article you can create a custom page template specifically for the podcast archive page: https://support.castos.com/article/29-creating-custom-podcast-templates

Hope that helps, and if there’s anything else we can do just let us know.

Thanks Craig, I’ve done what’s been described in the article but to no avail.

If you could assist further, that would be great. Thank you

    Hello @dval09,

In addition to creating a new template as an archive-podcast.php file, Builder based themes like Divi and Elementor will also also you to make modifications by adding modules to those pages. You can find the instructions for the Elementor plugin in their documentation here https://docs.elementor.com/article/339-creating-an-archive-template-with-elementor-pro. Hope this helps you towards getting that page as you would like to see it. If you have the style of the page as you would like, but aren’t seeing the change, you might want to try flushing your theme or site cache to get the new page to render.

Thanks iviolini for the prompt reply. I am actually attempting to modify the single post episode page not the archive.

    Hello!

It would work much in the same way as the archive.php template except you will need to create something like single-podcast.php in your templates that you can designate for use. From there the layout for that template would be controlled by Elementor, so you will want to double check with their documentation on how that works for pages other than then archive template.

Right, and that’s the thing, I’ve added the single-podcast.php to my child theme. However, on the edit episode page of the backend, there is no option to “Edit with Elementor” as is usually the case. This leads me to believe that Elementor has no control over the episode page. Even still, there is no “template” option on the edit episode page either.

Not sure if it helps, but I am using the Ocean WP Theme.

    Hello @dval09,

It sounds as though you have the correct structure for this to work with the Seriously Simple Plugin, the next step is just getting the page template looking the way you want it to. With Elementor you do have the ability to build both custom archive and single templates for the posts displayed on your site. This process may differ than when working with a regular page, but is documented on the Elementor site. Your can also try reaching out to your theme developer to ensure you are working with the correct process for those template files.

Ah, I see. I’ve got it. Thanks for working with me, lol.

I actually recall now playing around with it before but was turned off by the appearance of the podcast widget audio player https://tinyurl.com/y6fg88em. It differs than the native one on the episode page https://tinyurl.com/yxofa83t.

Is there a way to get the podcast widget audio player identical to the native one?

    Thanks for your help!

    Still awaiting, thank you ??

    Hello @dval09,

The HTML5 player you show in your second screen shot is only available on the podcast episode page and isn’t available as a widget to drop into other places on your site, but it is a feature we are considering for future development. Hi @iviolini, thank you for your help.

I’ve decided, temporarily, I am going to have the podcast sit outside of Elementor because I really like the html5 player. I am wondering can someone help me to achieve the single-post layout (the current display is full-width for some reason) explained here: https://support.castos.com/article/29-creating-custom-podcast-templates

I have already attempted to copy the single.php file to my child theme folder, nothing happened. Thank you

    Hello @dval09,

I think you are still seeing an issue that is related to working with Elementor. The SSP plugin creates a Custom Post Type which may be why you are not seeing what you expect. Looking at their documentation it seems you need to select in the Elementor dashboard which CPTs you have the ability to edit https://docs.elementor.com/article/173-does-elementor-work-with-posts-and-custom-post-types. Take a look and see if you have the ability to edit the Podcast post type and if not, let us know and we can take a deeper look.
