I have a wordpress hosted on hostgator. It has Events Manager installed, as well as several other plugins, and a custom theme that I wrote.

When I go into EM settings, and change something, when the settings page reloads, it briefly shows the new value that I entered; and then a few moments after the page is loaded, the value reverts to the default, all by itself. I literally watch it change. This means that unless I go through every setting in every section on every tab, and fix all the things I need changed, if I were to change something else, and ignore some other settings I had changed, they get saved as the default.

I have tried so many things.
    – switching to a WP default theme, in case it was something in my functions.php
    – deactivating all other plugins
    – deactivating and deleting all other plugins
    – uninstalling, deactivating, deleting EM, and reinstalling it from scratch (with all the other plugins gone as well)

I tried installing EM on another WP on the same host, and it works fine.

I tried installing EM on a completely fresh WP install (but on bluehost, not hostgator), installing the same theme, installing the same plugins, but EM still works fine.

Truly, I’m at a loss. My last step is to create a new hostgator account for it and making the whole WP from scratch, duplicating all its content and everything, testing EM as I go, step by step. If EM ends up continuing to work on the new version, I’ll just end up pointing the DNS at THAT one and blitzing the old account.

The plugins I am using, in case it’s still somehow relevant:
    AddThis Social Bookmarking Widget
    AdRotate (installed but not activated)
    Categories Images
    Content Scheduler
    Duplicate Post
    Easy FancyBox
    Google Font Manager
    issuuPress
    Simply Show IDs

I know plugins can leave behind remnants of themselves, so I’d say it’s still possible EM settings page is being affected by one of those, but as I said, I tried all those plugins on that bluehost testing WP, and it never broke there.

    The site is https://theloaferonline.com .

    Any ideas?

  • Your theme is running an old version of jQuery – that could be connected to the problem.

Are you testing in the same browser each time?

What versions of Events Manager and WordPress are you using?

    Thanks.

Will try bumping up to the newest version of jQuery. I believe I decided to use the older version so the fancybox plugin would work, but at this point, I don’t care.

Yes, same browser (Chrome 34 on Mac OS)

Sorry I didn’t state WP version in my post – I selected it (3.9) from the dropdown at the top of the New Post page, I assumed it would show up somewhere!
So yes. WP 3.9, EM 5.5.2.

Tried using jquery 1.11.0, and 2.1.0 – the settings still revert.

Edit: Actually, my call to a different jQuery only happens on the front end, not in the admin.

how about trying to use wordpress default jquery library instead?

As I said, I am not altering the wordpress default jquery on the admin side at all. Besides, switching to WP’s Twenty Thirteen theme still results in the EM settings being reverted.

Have you tried deactivating all other plugins while running the default theme to rule out a Javascript conflict?

    Thread Starter sashafiero

    (@sashafiero)

Yep. After I had deactivated and deleted ALL plugins, then reinstalled EM fresh, I also tried with the Twenty Thirteen theme before I put back any other plugins.

I thought you probably would’ve have tried but you’ve got to check ??

Does this happen for every value you change or just some?

I did note that they don’t all revert. The Default event list format header, in the Formatting > Events section, for example, sticks.

Welp, I have more or less duplicated the site.

I have access to the account creation, so I made a new one, which I can’t link you because I’m using my hosts file to let it pretend it has a domain name.

And did a database dump of the original site. Find and replaced the domain name for the new one, then ran it through a regex to deal with any instances where it had serialized data. Imported it into the new site.

And of course downloaded all the files from the original site and uploaded them to the new one.

    And EM works.
As is, same plugins, same theme.

I really am at a loss as to why. Maddening.

Is there any chance it could be a Mac related thing? That said, I’ve never heard any other Mac users with a simialr problem. But it might be worth checking on a Windows / Linux machine.

I’ve been using mac on the old and the new copy. But I’ll boot into windows on my laptop and see…
Still being weird on chrome on Windows 7.

Just out of curiosity along that line of thinking, I tried Firefox on my mac. It WORKS. It saves the settings and on load doesn’t revert them.

This makes NO SENSE. I’m sure it does, I’m sure there’s a reason, but whaaaaaaaat?

It doesn’t make sense that original site, in chrome on mac, does not work, while duplicate of that site does work, in chrome on mac.

But the original site EM settings does work properly in firefox…

    Uhhh.
The only chrome extension I have that COULD affect things on an individual site basis is Stylish, and I just double checked, and I don’t have anything applied to either domain.

Oh wait. I have LastPass. I have a password saved with it.
I deleted the password for the site. And now… it works.

    Wow.
    Found it. LastPass.
