email a post not working I think

I just installed the wp 1.2.1 package and set up a “secret” email account on my system so I can email a posting. When I tried the email account, the message was received by me email system but was never added to the blogg until I directed my browser to wp-mail.php. Once I did that the email posting was added. Can anyone explain how this fuunction is supposed to work and what I need to do to make it work without having to point the browser to wp-mail?
